July blooms with Alpines

~ Saturday, 25th July 2009

July is always a good month for spotting delightful alpine flore. This July has been no exception.
Many of the walks to and from huts in Switzerland lead you through lovely alpine meadows, showing off a great variety of plants which enjoy particular altitudes or environments.
Some like it high, cold and pretty barren. Others prefer warmth, moisture and good soils.

Wherever the location there is always a chance of spotting something special. On two recent hut trips I have found the quite rare Hairy Stonecrop, which is protected and vulnerable and I have seen a some Mt Cenis Bellflower, again quite rare and protected.
Beautiful!
