Alpine Ladies Mantle, Black Cuillin.

~ Thursday, 4th June 2009

The Black Cuillin ride on the Isle of Skye provides home to many of our hardier plants. Last week we had pretty wet and cold conditions for a traverse attempt of the full Cuillin ridge.

The plant life did not disappoint, even if the weather conditions did!! Milkwort, Butterwort and  Heath Marsh Orchid were seen in abundance on our asent to the ridge.

Many Roseroot were dotted along the ridge and in many areas we saw Alpine Ladies Mantle, but it took a while to identify as it does not flower until June.

All great mountain plants, brightening two fairly grey and damp days!
