Ring Ouzels and Purple Saxifrage
~ Thursday, 9th April 2009Last Wednesday I was out with my son for a walk up the north east ridge of Y Garn. It was a beautiful day, with light winds and clear skies. I wasn't fast enough with my camera to capture a Ring Ouzel as it flew overhead part way up the ridge. Later in the day I heard a few more, in Cwm Clyd and Cwm Idwal.
What was easier to capture on camera was a beautiful cluster of Purple Saxifrage. These often flower as early as March and can have a second flowering period in July. They prefer calcareous ground and are not a common sighting.
