New Years Day in Arolla
~ Monday, 2nd January 2012Following a recent spell of big snowfalls and fluctuating temperatures, the snow conditions have been variable to say the least. Low down the powder has had a very short life, due to warm temperatures, high up there has been enough wind to pack the fresh snow into soft slab, which in places is quite deep.
New Years day brought plenty of enthusiasm for some off piste action. Four of us headed to Arolla where we found a mix of thawed soft snow and wind packed deep snow. Gentle angles were fine and indeed the steep slopes had been heavily bombed and amazingly, nothing had shifted. The snow was variable to say the least, but fresh tracks all day long kept a healthy grin on all our faces.
Happy New Year to you all.
